As an alternative to cheap advergames, cheap chat-games seem like more fun!

But I'm worried about hidden dynamics limitations - it's hard to describe here, so I'll probably need to do a post about it.Craig Perkohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13173752470581218239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11758224.post-81076129155489629682008-01-19T10:05:00.000-08:002008-01-19T10:05:00.000-08:00For better or worse, my appreciation for text base...For better or worse, my appreciation for text based stuff goes as far as the psychoanalyze-pinhead mode in emacs. I think this is going to be a niche market, but given the low costs of production, it could still be profitable.

Perhaps it could be expanded to include a simple graphical component while maintaining the "on rails, low content" sensibilities. That might be the way to do game conversions of stuff like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Come to think of it, I'd probably play these games if they could make me laugh. I don't need parallax occlusion maps to make me chuckle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11758224.post-91315319934953178812008-01-18T10:50:00.000-08:002008-01-18T10:50:00.000-08:00I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'm saying tha...I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'm saying that information is a different kind of beast.

You could do it Phoenix Wright style, discard each piece of information when it is no longer relevant. The problem is that information is suddenly just inventory items that happen to not actually exist.

But if I do a game on information, I would want the information to be information, which means it not only propagates and can be imperfect or invented, but also means it can be connected and brought back into play for creative reasons.Craig Perkohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13173752470581218239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11758224.post-86557900621484523082008-01-18T10:20:00.000-08:002008-01-18T10:20:00.000-08:00I think that's a legitimate concern, but by no mea...I think that's a legitimate concern, but by no means insurmountable. An implementation of the adventure journal couldn't be a half-ass effort, as it needs a fairly sophisticated means of searching through journal entries and limiting information's visibility as it becomes less relevant.

I never played Majestic when it was all the rage, but they must have faced similar issues. I wonder how they worked through them.clemhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09230578036395991204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11758224.post-9568975777037066222008-01-18T09:58:00.000-08:002008-01-18T09:58:00.000-08:00That's along the lines of what I was thinking. The problem with that is that you quickly gain a huge amount of information, and combing through it to select precisely what you want can be quite a chore. Part of the strength of inventory games is that you don't have eight million inventory items.Craig Perkohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13173752470581218239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11758224.post-24563280916033507892008-01-18T09:49:00.000-08:002008-01-18T09:49:00.000-08:00In a sense, you could have an inventory system wit...In a sense, you could have an inventory system with a chat-bot adventure. Your inventory in this case is full of the information you acquire from the chat-bots which is then automatically compiled into an adventure journal.

Now, unlike a lantern or a loaf of bread, you can't drop or destroy information. But interactivity can be provided to the player by decisions that revolve around which chat-bots you share information with. You could even introduce misinformation to chat-bots.

For example, imagine a scenario where a chat-bot in the guise of a police informant is given a tip by the player that frames any of a number of other chat-bots for a crime. Depending which chat-bot you frame for the crime opens different chat options with the remaining bots.clemhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09230578036395991204noreply@blogger.com
